Meta Housing Corporation Breaks Ground on New Affordable Housing Project in Concord

Updated: Mar 13, 2023

Meta Housing Corporation, an innovative leader in building affordable housing in California, recently broke ground on a much-anticipated construction project, the Blue Oak Apartments, located at 2400 Willow Pass Road in Concord, CA.

Attendees at the groundbreaking ceremony included Concore Development Group's President Mehrad Eslami, who will serve as the construction manager (CM) on the project, Concord’s mayor Laura Hoffmeister, vice mayor Edi Birsan, President of Meta Housing Kasey Burke, and Concord city council members, among others.

In addition to bringing much needed affordable housing to the city, Concord's Mayor Laura Hoffmeister, when interviewed later, shared some of the project’s key benefits for her community as well expressing how the construction manager for the project, Concore Development Group, will play a critical role in the overall success of the project's construction. "One person [a liaison] to communicate back and forth is a critical position to ensure that everything works and goes according to schedule," the mayor explained. "A project manager is even more key today for sequencing" and getting the project done successfully.

The building will have 181 units, all affordable housing, two podium garages, plus five stories above it. Mayor Hoffmeister also emphasized that having an experienced CM overseeing the project during construction will ensure the project stays on track and meets its established goals. Amenities will include a community room, short and long-term bicycle parking, and an outdoor open courtyard with recreational space.

The mayor elaborated on several of Blue Oaks’ essential features. She described a comfortable living environment with one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments that would have great appeal to potential renters due to their low cost, easy access to public transportation and central location.

"There's also a pharmacy, a Safeway nearby and the downtown plaza a half a mile away with events going on year-round,” she said. The mayor also pointed out that the location is ideal for residents, with BART and other public transit within walking distance. The John Muir Medical Center is nearby, and there will be a regional bus line on three sides of the apartment complex.

“The Blue Oak Apartments will add vibrancy to the entire city of Concord,” the mayor added approvingly, and went on to say how several other affordable housing projects in Concord are in the works and when completed will serve Concord's ongoing need for more affordable housing.
